Family Flashbacks - 90s

Everyone says the 1980s was the decade style forgot, but clearly in my case, it was the 90s.  Which of course is why I'm sharing it with the world - so we never make these mistakes again ;)
Ok this pic was first cause it's actually the least shocking outfits, prepare for worse...

Michael in his Simon Cowell trousers, me in my grans culottes...

God I begged my mum for this tracksuit then was hardly ever allowed to wear it cause there was a huge hooha about how flammable they were.  Clearly my brother was right to be ashamed to be seen with me...

Original outfit pics!

Can you tell my mum loved pattern?  She actually tried to buy me a bigger version of that pink jacket a year or so later, I said a firm NO.

Ah outerwear.  My brother seems to have got the worst of it with his entire turquoise outfit tho...

School and brownie uniform - I got landed with culottes when all I wanted was the joggers, that would not be the case now ;)

Even the accessories were gruesome - giant glasses and bright blue hairbands?  Who thought that was a good idea? (again tho, I begged for the glasses, they were Beauty and the Beast floral ones)

Even the end of the decade showed no visible improvement - I was now wearing what looked like gym clothing  regularly and apparently matching my brothers wardrobe, sigh...

Going natural...

Top - M&S via charity shop
Skirt - H&M
Wedges - Next

Necklace - charity shop

Bracelets - H&M

Here's yesterdays outfit, taken before I covered myself in factor 30 and sat outside reading for ages - gotta soak up the sun while I can!  I decided to let my hair dry naturally, which I never do cause it tangles like crazy, and now its longer it takes HOURS to dry, but figured since I was outside it would go quicker.  And actually it went mildly cute and wavy at the same time too, bonus!  I've been addicted to these little claw grips lately too, much easier than faffing with kirbys!

I got my new summer shoes from Next last week, at the same time as I got these M&S beauties in cream, just need an excuse to wear them now!

Something weird going on here...

Cardi - M&S Outlet
Top - Warehouse via charity shop
Skirt - charity shop
Converse - TK Maxx

Mickey bracelet - Disney World
Heart bracelet - found on beach...
Vintage bangle - charity shop

OMG my summer skirt has escaped from the wardrobe!  Along with the rest of my outfit.  I've been like a giddy child for the past week, out in the sun at every opportunity.  In fact Monday saw me having breakfast on the balcony, then going to work and having an ice lolly for lunch then faffing near the door/outside for as long as possible...  But it hasn't always been like this.

In my teens I hated summer.  I think this can be directly related to the fact that I started my first job the summer I turned 15, working in an ice cream shop joined to a tartan, touristy gift shop.  I loved that place but on sunny days it was swamped with irritating daytrippers queuing out the shop while I scooped and twirled out cones for hours.  We were also on the Irish ferry route so got all the football fan buses stopping at tea time, wanting to buy juice and sticks of rock (never quite got that stuff, it's just an oversized lolly right?).  But on rainy days...  Ah it was lovely.  That drizzly summer smell came and we'd stand at the doors chatting, or clean the shops lazily, or make up bags of candy floss while chatting.  (It was also around this time I realised I wasn't suited to customer facing jobs ;))  Those are the days I cherish most from that time.

It's only been in the past year that I really came around to summer.  After a few years of living in freezing flats and having an enforced limited social life through weather and lack of funds, it seems like everything gets better when the sun shines.  I can go outside, walk down the beach, around town or even just to the library without being soaked. Then sit on the balcony and tear through my books.  It's official, winter has been bumped.  (I realise this may be premature considering the rumours of SNOW this weekend, but go with me)

Speaking of enjoying the weather, my best friend from school came home from Yorkshire for the weekend and we went a wander down the v busy beach - we just kept walking til it got quiet ;)

Found these too cute cows in Mhairi's car - the fluffy one woulda been mine if she hadn't been watching me closely, pfft!

Hope everyone else is loving the weather!

Shades of blue...

Jumper - H&M mens
Dress - M&S Outlet
Converse - TK Maxx

Well I was trying to get this post up yesterday but I ran into the same problems Scarlett had over photos.  Thanks to her v useful advice tho, I'm hoping I've fixed it!  Thanks to my ridiculous lappy it took bloody ages tho, yay...

This outfit is from Friday, had to go see my boss at our other site so figured I may as well eat Ben and Jerrys and watch 21 Jump Street while I was there - its so good!  Was pleasantly surprised, Channing Tatum is rather good at the whole comedy thing (and my brain has now decided he's FIT and has been conjuring fantasies all weekend ;))  Also tested the new Apple-y Ever After flavour - its weird but good, and totally reminds me of something...  If anyone else tastes it let me know!

Weekend was actually spent at work so not much of interest happened...anyone do anything fun?

Stars and straps...

Shirt - charity shop
Jeans - Topshop Tall
Shoes - New Look

So, in case you haven't noticed by now, I love these shoes.  I love them so much I also have them in navy, got both pairs for £15, gotta love a sale in New Look.  Heels, comfort, versatile colour and straps are all winners in my book.  Ok the straps are necessary thanks to annoyingly narrow feet - as a kid all I wanted was loafers for school, but I would walk out of every pair I tried on.  Sigh.  Luckily I can work round that for the most part now by shopping around - plus straps are cute right?

Keeping things simple...

Jumper - Clements Ribiero via TK Maxx
Blouse - M&S classic
Jeans - Topshop Tall

The reason I can't wear this top on its own?  Inevitable pasta stains... :/ which I mean getting dressed was the most I did this day, so adding shoes and make up and brushing my hair seemed like a bit much.

Not much been going on here this week, it's been all work work work, plus a trip to the library to chill me out after somehow getting drunk on 4 beers at the pub quiz.  Maybe I shouldn't have done a gym session then ate a rubbishy dinner before drinking...oops...

Oh for those asking, the dog in my pics from the other day belongs to my flatmates mum, he just stays over here sometimes - in fact he's over right now, I caught him standing behind me earlier when I was hoovering, turned round and nearly had a heart attack!  That jangly collar is nae use when I'm hoovering and possibly singing to myself...

Losing my direction...

Cardigan - H&M mens
White vest - Topshop Tall
Lace trim vest - M&S
Skirt - Topshop
Converse - gift

Beads - charity shop
Robot necklace - Claires
Globe necklace - Accessorize

(like my hair?  It's gotten to an irritating length so I got one of these donuts thingies off eBay and followed this fab tutorial over at M Loves M and voila!  It's the first time since school I've successfully styled my hair, was ridiculously easy and stayed put all day, no mean feat for my thick, heavy hair...)

One day last week I decided I was having an adventure on my day off, so I set off in the car after getting lunch supplies at Morrisons and drove up a random road I'd never really paid attention to before.  Here's the thing about Scotland - every road seems to lead somewhere you've already been, especially around here - there's a lot of countryside but you're never very far from anywhere...  So I took a random turning that was signed 'Forest Park' and found myself driving along a single track road through an immense forest.  Now the scenery was amazing but if there was anything else on the road I woulda been screwed.  This went on for miiiiles until finally I stumbled upon a village - that is in fact about 10 miles from town.  Bfffggghhtytt! (that's approx the noise I made when I realised my daftness).

It was a lovely sunny (cold) day so I got out the car anyway and ate lunch on a bench next to a park.  The entire place was deserted, which suited me just fine - if I could avoid people 80% of the time, I'd be quite happy ;)  I found a leaflet for country walks so set off along a couple of the shorter trails.  Which was rather lovely, if muddy...

The end of one trail came out at an old graveyard so I had a wander - there's something fascinating about looking at old gravestones I think.  Found one belonging to a lady who had died on her 97th birthday, that seems nice and neat to me!  Also found a grave with my gran's name, so there's a good chance it could be a relation, weird!
And back to the park in the end.  There was a cottage at the start of the trails (hidden behind the trees here) that I fell a bit in love with - the location is rather perfect and it was just the right size...  I can dream, right?!

Hitting the town...

Autograph dress - M&S Outlet
Shoes - New Look

Necklaces - charity shop

Love the leather detailing!

Had a wee night out last week to cheer up my friend, who has just split up with his fiancee - I'm totally gutted about it so not really sure what to say to him...  I'm utterly useless in these types of situations, if you want someone to take random road trips and eat chips with I'm your girl, but present me with a serious conversation or crying person, then I lose all ability to be normal.  Think my giggly personality gets in the way a bit too often...

Anyway, we headed out for dinner and drinks with our other friend, which was fine until they started talking all things Star Trek and rating passing ladies asses.  Sigh, this is what I get for not having more girlfriends - anyone wanna move here and be my new best gal pal?
