Our castle...

On Sunday we were looking for somewhere to go a wee walk, so Moffat and Ali and I decided to take Tam to the castle and share its awesomeness.  It was nice when we left home but by the time we arrived at the castle half an hour later it was raining on and off.  Luckily I had my favourite things, the wellies, to keep my feet dry!  We had a fairly quick walk around but I'm really pleased how this batch of pictures turned out.  As usual we saw more things we'd never noticed before, including some very worn signs from the servants bell board in the basement - one we could just make out the writing on to read 'Spare Ladies Maid Bedroom'.  It all sounds very grand and Downton-esque.  (Speaking of, not long until the new series!)

The above pictures is one of my favourites from all the castle pictures I've taken.  Annoyingly my wellies can be seen at the bottom, but maybe that just adds some charm to it...  This angle was from the top of the spiral staircase at roof level, looking down.
Looking up at the dumbwaiter frame.
Moffat just walked by at the right/wrong moment!  You can see the unedited version over at Three Coasts.

This Week I...

jumper - Long Tall Sally
jeans - Topshop Tall
Converse - gift
...wore these jeans and realised I kinda don't really like them any more.  Ebay it is!
...found THREE long enough dresses in various charity shops - my luck is in!  (At the end of summer of course...)  We're gonna hit the car boot sale this morning to see if my streak continues.
sandals - Marks and Spencer
...bought sandals for the first time in years - I'm going to Tuscany next month!  Now I just have to get used to my feet being that exposed out in the open...
...dithered over books in the library for an absolute age.  Sometimes when there's so much choice I just can't choose anything.  I've heard good things about the Jojo Moyes one but the other two were randoms.  I also made a bow hair clip, which you can see perched on the book pile, or my head.
 ...finished knitting this epic wrap.
...went to the castle again - look out for more pictures tomorrow!

Into the woods...

After visiting Culross we went a walk in the woods on the way home.  There were pine cones and lush greenery galore, the perfect place for walking.  The weather was a bit changeable - going from cool and very cloudy to roasting and blazing sunshine - which made for a not so interesting discussion about whether to go back for jackets or where to hide from the rain in all the open space.  It managed to stay dry however, and the best part of the walk was taken up finding the best pine cones to draw later and craning our neck looking for the alleged tons of red squirrels that live there.  (We saw not one.  Unless you're counting the many wooden ones screwed to the trees for novelty effect.  Probably scared off the real ones.)

Finished Knitting - Seed Stitch Wrap

I finally finished my wrap!  And I might be biased but...isn't it beautiful?!  I don't often post finished objects since it takes me SO LONG to knit one item, so take it all in now.  After putting it on to take pictures I can confirm that it will be keeping me nice and warm this winter.
I used ten colours in all (check out my starting post here) and used most of the 100g balls of each colour.  Because of the moss stitch used it turned out nice and flat too, so it was easy to work with as it was getting bigger - I just folded it over on my lap.
Getting cosy...
Has anyone else made it?  I'd love to see pictures!

A trip to Culross...

We were at a bit of a loose end one day last week and decided to just go a drive somewhere and see where we ended up.  Culross, as it turned out.  Pronounced koo-russ.  It took my brain an absolute age to get that to sink in (I'm a terrible Scot, I pronounce everything just as I see it, which is rarely right!).  What a gorgeous place though - from the shore to the cobbled streets to the cafe where we had lunch, everything was completely picturesque, which delighted me no end.
The 'pier' was slightly terrifying - I'd say I have rather large feet and I still felt like I was falling in the cracks at points.  And the ONE handrail did nothing to help that feeling...
Now, Tam is 6ft 8, but the doors here were comically small!  We spent a lot of time standing in front of them in disbelief...
Even the 5ft 10 woman can't compete with the doors - note Parsnip's 'so over it' expression ;)
Another fun day out!  We actually went here because there was meant to be a man with a van that made homemade crisps, and y'all know crisps are one of my favourite things EVER, but he wasn't there.  Gutted.  A return trip will need to be had soon...

Faff Favourites...

Well it's been a while since I did one of these posts!  I'm back at work now, that week off went way too fast, but I did get some time to poke around the internet when I was at Mother's last week.  As well as eating lots of sweets, accidentally creating mad hair by sleeping with two plaits instead of one and drinking beer and eating amazing burgers in Glasgow.  I'm pretty darn good at holidays, if I do say so myself...

A bunch of details...

Sometimes I feel like I really have to put effort into finding pictures for Three Coasts, and sometimes it seems like a bunch of opportunities all present themselves at once.  Lately I've built up a collection of unused, random pictures without a home, so here they are, all together for your pleasure.  I like to find the details in things, as you can tell...
