Shopping the sales

I had a pretty simple but fairly important list when I was shopping the Christmas sales this year - tan boots, loafers (also tan or something that goes with black and navy), a jersey knee length dress, silver stud earrings, a silver ring, a gym bra and a bed cover.  I'd been looking at the wardrobe gaps and the bits and pieces that needed replaced in the run up to the sales, hoping to find what I needed at a bargain price.  Perhaps for the first time ever, I got what I needed and only a couple of 'wild card' purchases.  Well, I can't be restrained all the time...

The mug above was one of the wild cards.  I was waiting for my friend in M&S and wandered over to the home section.  It's unusual I'd buy anything kitchen related but this mug was calling out to me.  Seaside theme!  Colours!  Deck chairs!  And it's massive!  Only £6.  It's not on the web but there's a regular sized version here.

top - H&M
skirt - M&S
-
dress - Monsoon
The clothing related items were the most surprising finds of all.  I'd seen this dress on the Monsoon website and was keen to try it on, which I'm glad I did, because the top half was a bit different to what I'd expected.  The girl working in the changing rooms even admitted it was a bit weird looking but I knew it was a style I'd wear anyway, plus NAVY and POLKA DOTS, so it was always coming home with me.

The skirt...  I love that M&S do mini skirts that aren't too mini, so when I saw this on sale for £16 I snapped it up, despite not really being in the market for one.  The colour goes with all my existing clothes and the length and style are good for work.  Corduroy just does not like being photographed though, does it?

loafers - M&S
Shoes!  I found shoes!  I'd tried these on last month but wasn't sure on the sizing - I had to go up a half size in the end but I'm really pleased with them.  They're just the colour and style I was after, and as long as they don't stretch (like the last pair of loafers I had from M&S...) I'll wear them out.

boots - Red Herring @ Debenhams
I was waiting for my friend when I got off the train, and went into Debenhams on the off chance of finding shoes.  Lo and behold, there was one pair of tan boots, in my size, sitting on the sale shelf.  They met my very specific criteria (low on the legs, small heel, light enough to go with everything, the zips must be part of the design) and were reduced to £34.  Very reasonable.  I was even more surprised when they fitted, so off I went to the cash desk feeling very pleased with myself, having accomplished the hardest task earliest in the day.  And...they rang up at £14.  I couldn't get the money handed over fast enough!  It's pretty rare when this happens but I love those moments, don't you?

I also found some silver studs and a ring half price in Accessorize - I lost the ring I wore for years a few months ago and feel lost without it, so I wanted to find something to wear until I can replace it properly.  And to be honest, I'm still holding out a small hope that it'll be found.  I got this bedcover on the BHS site after seeing the smaller size in store.  It's pretty similar to my existing one but without that worn out quality.  And the sports bra was found in M&S, but no-one cares to see that I'm sure...

  1. What brilliant finds! I especially love the cord skirt and the tan boots - gotta love it when you take something to the till and it's even cheaper. I didn't manage to shop the sales this year as I was too ill, which kind of sucks as I'm now back on my spending ban. I like your idea of making a specific list of things that are needed: I might do the same for when I can begin spending money again, so I don't just go crazy and waste loads of cash as per usual.

    1. They had loads in Debenhams, the problem is they're not great at reducing them very far normally...good luck in the search!
